Highlighting the Importance of Prevention: Dr Chinegwundoh in NHS South West London’s Winter Campaign

I was pleased to be featured in a recent article by NHS South West London, which spotlights the extraordinary system-wide effort to keep our communities safe this winter through vaccination. As a respiratory consultant at Kingston Hospital, I see the impact of seasonal viruses like flu, Covid-19, and RSV on patients each day – and I know how critical vaccination is in preventing serious illness and hospital admissions.
In the article, I spoke about the pressures we face during winter, how our hospitals plan ahead, and why encouraging people to get vaccinated is more important than ever. While we prepare by opening additional beds and increasing staff, nothing is more effective than prevention.
Vaccinations help reduce the risk of complications like bronchitis and pneumonia – especially for our most vulnerable patients. The work happening across South West London – from roving vaccination teams to pop-up clinics in the heart of local communities – is a powerful example of the NHS and partners coming together to make every contact count.
The piece also showcases other amazing frontline staff and community leaders who are helping deliver thousands of vaccines and build trust where uptake is low.
